Event Description

Solo (AX) Event #1 March 10 and 11- Millington Jetport
It's that time of year again boys and girls to do a little cone dodging with the SCCA Mid-South Region 66. If you haven't already ya need to get that last minute car prep done or just bring your DD out and see what it and you can do. Pre-Registration will be up soon at myautoevents.com and just as last year we will have a drawing for a Free AX if you Pre-Register. It saves a lot of time for the crew as well and we are a Volunteer organization. Sure hope to see a lot of familiar faces as well as lots of new ones. Novices are always welcome and everyone is willing to give advice, help out and even ride along before you tackle the course to make you feel more comfortable...

9:30 Tech/10:00 Registration cut off. You are responsible for having your car number and class clearly displayed on your vehicle after Registration.

An excerpt from Randy Pobst, race driver, from latest issue of Sports Car Magazine…“Through college, Solo racing was a ticket to a life of adventure, driving across Florida to find events and competition every weekend I could. I was addicted to this semi-natural and all legal drug; and still am, 35 years later.
The sport is far more sophisticated and a little more expensive now, Solo is still the easiest, cheapest and safest way to push yourself and your car to the absolute limit. Speeds are low, but it surely doesn’t feel like it, folks. Don’t believe it? Ride along once. Your brain speed will be 100mph faster than what the speed-o says. If a nice drive in the country is a Glee cover tune, then a Solo run is heavy metal rock!”

TIPS AND TRICKS…-Get there early. You need time to find Paddock space, empty your car of loose items and make it to tech, registration and then walk the course before the competition begins.
-Don’t hesitate to ask questions. We were novices too. The person next to you is more than willing to lend a hand- just don’t stand around too long if he or she is prepping their car for competition.
-If there is one that day, take advantage of the Novice course walk. Here, experienced autocrossers will lead a group of novices around the course, telling them how to read the course.
-A Novice course walk is not just for First Timers. Go on multiple novice course walks.
-Unless you are on a novice walk, try walking the course on your own, away from a big group. It’s less distracting and it allows you to better see the course.
-Show up for your work assignment early.
-If a course map is offered, pick one up and study it.
-Don’t be embarrassed to take notes on your course walk.
-At the end of the day, offer to help with course clean-up. This is a guaranteed way to make friends, this is a volunteer event and the drivers are the volunteers. And friends are always good to have when your show up without your tire gauge or just about anything else for that matter.
-Solo events are drug and alcohol free. It’s also polite to not smoke around people and play music loud. Except on your runs of course! Also, there is NO smoking in Grid.
-Bring water, sunscreen and snacks. Did I mention bring sunscreen. Also, bring a bag lunch if possible because there may not be a food vendor on site or an actually lunch break may not be taken that day. Please don’t forget SUNSCREEN.
-Wear comfortable closed toed shoes for standing or walking-you might be running during your work assignment, so sandals don’t generally work out to well. If you want, bring a change of shoes to drive in.
-Inspect your own car before going to tech. Make sure your lug nuts are tight, the brakes work and there is nothing loose in the car-that includes trash in the trunk, items under the seats and garage door openers on the visor.
-Driver Meetings are Mandatory. It’s also a great place to find people that can answer questions. Run/work order and work assignments are also provided at this time.
-You will lose. Many times. Don’t get frustrated!!
-You came to the event to have fun- So have Fun!!
